Intensive Outpatient Program
Flexible Treatment for Lasting Recovery
Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP)
Recovery does not end after detox, residential treatment, or a Partial Hospitalization Program. Maintaining long-term sobriety requires continued support, accountability, and the development of healthy coping skills. At Oklahoma Recovery Center, our Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) helps patients continue their recovery journey while balancing work, school, family responsibilities, and other daily commitments.
Our IOP provides structured treatment and evidence-based therapies in a flexible format, allowing patients to receive ongoing support while gradually transitioning back into independent living.
What Is an Intensive Outpatient Program?
An Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) is a step-down level of care that provides comprehensive addiction treatment without requiring patients to live onsite or attend full-day programming. Patients participate in scheduled therapy sessions and recovery-focused services several days per week while maintaining their normal routines and responsibilities.
Our IOP is designed to help patients strengthen recovery skills, maintain accountability, and navigate real-world challenges while continuing to receive professional support.

Our Intensive Outpatient Program may include:
Individual Therapy
One-on-one counseling sessions provide patients with the opportunity to address personal challenges, identify triggers, and develop strategies for maintaining sobriety.
Group Therapy
Group counseling encourages connection, accountability, and peer support. Patients learn from others who share similar experiences while developing communication and interpersonal skills.
Relapse Prevention Planning
Patients learn how to recognize warning signs of relapse, manage cravings, cope with stress, and create strategies for maintaining recovery during life’s challenges.
Dual Diagnosis Treatment
Many patients entering addiction treatment also experience anxiety, depression, trauma, PTSD, or other mental health conditions. Our integrated treatment approach addresses both substance use disorders and co-occurring mental health concerns.
Life Skills and Recovery Education
Patients continue developing practical skills that support long-term success, including emotional regulation, stress management, healthy relationship building, and personal responsibility.

Patients begin the program with a comprehensive assessment that helps determine treatment needs and establish individualized goals.
Throughout the program, patients may participate in:
- Individual counseling sessions
- Group therapy
- Psychoeducational workshops
- Relapse prevention training
- Recovery skills development
- Mental health counseling

Continuing the Recovery Journey
IOP serves as an important bridge between structured treatment and independent recovery. As patients progress, they gain confidence in their ability to manage daily responsibilities while maintaining sobriety.
The skills learned during IOP help patients build healthy habits, strengthen support networks, and develop the resilience needed for long-term success. Upon completion, many patients continue their recovery through outpatient therapy, support groups, alumni programs, and other community resources.

FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions About Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP)
An Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) is a structured addiction treatment program that provides therapy, counseling, and recovery support while allowing patients to continue living at home. IOP offers more support than traditional outpatient treatment but requires fewer hours than a Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP).
The primary difference is the amount of time spent in treatment. PHP typically involves several hours of programming per day, multiple days per week, while IOP generally requires fewer treatment hours. IOP is often a step-down level of care for patients who have completed residential treatment or PHP and are ready for increased independence.
IOP may be appropriate for patients who have completed a higher level of care, have a stable living environment, and need ongoing support for addiction recovery. It can also benefit individuals who require structured treatment but need the flexibility to maintain work, school, or family responsibilities.
Program schedules vary, but most Intensive Outpatient Programs involve treatment three to five days per week for a few hours each day. Treatment schedules are designed to provide meaningful support while allowing patients to manage their daily obligations.
IOP typically includes individual therapy, group counseling, relapse prevention education, life skills development, recovery support services, and treatment for co-occurring mental health conditions. Treatment plans are personalized based on each patient’s unique needs and goals.
Yes. One of the primary benefits of an Intensive Outpatient Program is flexibility. Many patients are able to continue working, attending school, or caring for family members while participating in treatment. Program schedules are often designed to accommodate these responsibilities.
Yes. Many patients receiving addiction treatment also struggle with anxiety, depression, trauma, PTSD, or other mental health disorders. Dual diagnosis treatment within an IOP addresses both substance use and mental health concerns to support long-term recovery.
Yes. Every patient completes an assessment before beginning treatment. Based on this evaluation, the treatment team develops a personalized plan that addresses recovery goals, mental health needs, and any challenges that may impact long-term success.
The length of treatment varies depending on each patient’s needs, progress, and recovery goals. Some patients participate in IOP for several weeks, while others may benefit from a longer period of support before transitioning to traditional outpatient care.
After completing IOP, patients often continue their recovery through outpatient counseling, support groups, alumni programs, recovery coaching, or other community-based resources. The goal is to maintain progress while continuing to build a strong foundation for long-term sobriety.
IOP can be highly effective for individuals who are motivated to participate in treatment and apply recovery skills in their daily lives. The combination of therapy, accountability, education, and peer support helps patients strengthen coping skills and reduce the risk of relapse.
Many health insurance plans provide coverage for Intensive Outpatient Programs and other addiction treatment services. Coverage varies based on the patient’s insurance provider and policy. Oklahoma Recovery Center can help verify benefits and explain available treatment options before admission.
The best way to determine the appropriate level of care is through a professional assessment. Our admissions team can evaluate your recovery history, current needs, and treatment goals to determine whether an Intensive Outpatient Program is the right fit for your situation.
